New Crowdfunding Campaign
HEAVENQUEST: A PILGRIM’S PROGRESS,
aims to craft an epic film from a 337-year-old bestseller.

(Greenville, SC – March 23, 2015)

The studio that brought you films like HOLY GHOST and FATHER OF LIGHTS, is raising funds through Kickstarter in order to refresh the story and message of THE PILGRIM’S PROGRESS for a brand new generation. The crowdfunding campaign lasts through April 21st, 2015.

WP Films, the independent film studio behind the cult hit trilogy FINGER OF GOD, FURIOUS LOVE and FATHER OF LIGHTS, is attempting again to set crowdfunding milestones for Christian films with the debut of its Kickstarter campaign for a new film project called HEAVENQUEST: A PILGRIM’S PROGRESS.

HEAVENQUEST is based on the original work of John Bunyan and his 1678 allegorical masterpiece, The Pilgrim’s Progress. The movie, directed by Matt Bilen, written and produced by Darren Wilson and the team at WP Films, will be a highly stylistic, fantastical, and beautiful story with themes of hope, sacrifice, and ultimately salvation. Although reimagined, HEAVENQUEST will still focus on the story of a man, desperate to escape his dark past, who undertakes a dangerous journey filled with peril in hope of finding his freedom.

WP Films currently holds the title for the most funded Christian film on Kickstarter of all time, with HOLY GHOST, and aims to shatter their previous record of $357,655 with their current goal of $1.2 million. The campaign runs for 30 days and will end at 9:00 pm EST on April 21st, 2015. Exciting parts of the campaign page include a sneak peek concept trailer for HEAVENQUEST, and a similarly epic list of rewards, including the chance to play a role in the movie.

Studio Behind HOLY GHOST Movie Announces Major Move to Greenville South Carolina

(Chicago, IL – November 10, 2014)

Wanderlust Productions, the production company behind the popular “God-umentaries” Finger of God, Furious Love, Father of Lights, and Holy Ghost, today announced that they will be moving their entire production house out of their current Chicago-based studios to Greenville, South Carolina, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

Formerly housed on the campus of Judson University, where founder Darren Wilson taught writing and media for 13 years, Wanderlust is stepping into a new chapter in its relatively short history.

“Judson University has been incredibly good to us over the years, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts,” Darren noted.  “I went to school here, met my wife here, and many of our current employees were former students of mine here.  While we may be leaving physically, we hope to continue relationship with Judson in the future through various teaching and workshop opportunities.”

Wanderlust will not be heading into a vacuum in South Carolina.  While they will continue having the spiritual and artistic autonomy which allows them to make the kinds of edgy, searching films they have become known for, the company is also looking for a more communal and spiritual covering than it has ever known in the past.

“As our films begin to reach further into the world than ever before, it has become obvious that, as a company, we need a church willing to not only love us, but pastor us as well,” says Braden Heckman, CEO of Wanderlust.  That church, it seems, is City Church in Simpsonville, SC, which on Jan 1 will make its own transition into becoming Bridgeway Church.  “We are beyond excited to not only have a church that we can all call home,” continues Heckman, “but also one that will take us as we are, will come alongside us in love and support, and is committed to pastoring us as individuals.”

Wanderlust’s latest effort, Holy Ghost, was seen by over 1 million people during it’s free 48 hour online premiere in September.  While the films are gaining wider exposure, they are also going beyond the mainly charismatic audience that made them a huge underground success, and with that comes wider scrutiny and controversy.  Bridgeway, for it’s part, isn’t afraid of the added scrutiny.

“When I met Darren and the Wanderlust team a year ago for the filming of Holy Ghost, I could sense that our connection was more than just for a film. It felt like being with family.” says Chad Norris, lead pastor for Bridgeway.  “Bridgeway Church is excited about Wanderlust moving to Greenville S.C. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for them here as they continue to spread the gospel through films. It is truly an honor to welcome them to the Bridgeway Family.”

The move will not slow down the company, which looks to have another big year in 2015 with the release of its long-awaited documentary about UFC legend Ken Shamrock (The Greatest Fight) and the sequel to Holy Ghost (Holy Ghost: Reborn), and continuing production on various other projects.  “I can’t begin to explain how excited we are about this move,” Darren explains.  “It’s a huge leap into the unknown, but then again, when has God ever asked anything less from us.”

HOLY GHOST World Premiere Attracted More Than One Million Estimated Viewers

Free, 48-Hour World Premiere of Faith-Based Documentary for Millennials scores big with global, tech-savvy audience; HOLY GHOST DVD and VOD availability, beginning today, will determine profitability and viability of new “Think Outside the Box Office” distribution model

(Chicago, IL – September 16, 2014)

Wanderlust Productions, the independent film studio behind the hit “God Adventure” trilogy FINGER OF GOD, FURIOUS LOVE and FATHER OF LIGHTS, is transforming Hollywood’s long-established business model with its #1 Kickstarter-funded, faith film for Millennials, HOLY GHOST. Last week, the company debuted its new film in a highly anticipated, live event called the HOLY GHOST World Premiere Experience. The one-time digital event—which featured a special musical appearance with Brian “Head” Welch of Korn—made it possible for anyone in the world to watch the event free of charge for 48 hours.

Exclusive new data reveals that the HOLY GHOST premiere yielded a stunning return, more than one million estimated viewers. This larger-than-expected audience, 41% of which were outside the U.S. and nearly 50% of which viewed HOLY GHOST on mobile devices, will now be invited to buy the film beginning today, September 16th.

“Based on the overwhelming support we received on Kickstarter, the response to Wanderlust’s first three films and the surge in social media from our fans, we have always fundamentally believed that HOLY GHOST will be a major commercial success. We will be profitable with the very first DVD or VOD sold today, and every sale afterward both increases the margin and serves as a proof point for the viability of this new model,” said Braden Heckman, CEO of Wanderlust. “Rather than raising production and promotional money from large investors, and then essentially betting that a project will do well enough to make that money back, HOLY GHOST’s new crowd-funded model provides a filmmaker with reasonable certainty from the outset of the project. 2,500 people donated because they wanted to see this film made. The consumer-driven model, made possible by new technology, gives people more power to choose and causes them to be deeply invested in a project’s success. Today, HOLY GHOST is new breaking ground, and tomorrow this model could be the new normal for the entertainment industry.”

Wanderlust’s distribution strategy is predicated on converting the audience from HOLY GHOST’s free premiere into paying customers. That phase begins today with the DVD and VOD release of HOLY GHOST, available on Amazon and at the Wanderlust website, with iTunes soon to come. That, coupled with HOLY GHOST’s three-week World Premiere Tour, where the film is making special stops at churches around the country through October 12th, will indicate the film’s level of commercial success.

Key HOLY GHOST metrics:

  • There were more than one million estimated viewers of HOLY GHOST’s World Premiere Experience
  • More than 740 churches are participating in the HOLY GHOST World Premiere Experience and/or HOLY GHOST World Premiere Tour
  • Nearly 75 movie theatres have joined by popular demand from the website Tugg
  • Nearly 50% of views during the World Premiere Experience were on mobile devices
  • 41% of views during the World Premiere Experience were outside the USA

HOLY GHOST Social Campaign Exceeds Goals, 650+ Churches Participating as Fans Prepare for Saturday’s Live Premiere Event

September 6th live World Premiere Experience – built around the global debut of the new HOLY GHOST movie and featuring a special concert with Brian “Head” Welch of Korn alongside Jake Hamilton & The Sound – begins at 2pmET/11amPT

(Chicago, IL – September 4, 2014)

Wanderlust Productions, the independent film studio behind the hit “God Adventure” trilogy FINGER OF GOD, FURIOUS LOVE AND FATHER OF LIGHTS, is challenging Hollywood’s established business model with the debut of its Kickstarter-funded, faith film for Millennials, HOLY GHOST. On Saturday, September 6th, Wanderlust Productions will proudly present the HOLY GHOST World Premiere Experience. This live, one-time digital event – featuring a special musical appearance where Brian “Head” Welch of Korn will join Jake Hamilton & The Sound – makes it possible for anyone in the world to watch the entire event free of charge by going to http://hgpremiere.bethel.tv.

Wanderlust’s #HolyGhostExperience campaign, launched last week to mobilize 25,000 of HOLY GHOST’s most avid fans to crowd market and promote the film, has exceeded internal projections and goals, a strong indication that large audiences will be tuning in this Saturday, September 6th.

“We launched the #HolyGhostExperience campaign to keep our target consumer in the driver’s seat, empowering fans to mass promote this coming Saturday’s World Premiere Experience. We gave 25,000 people the opportunity to participate by engaging in as many as five easy, seven moderate, and two challenging promotional tasks,” said Braden Heckman, CEO of Wanderlust Productions. “Our fans have blown us away, beating all of what we thought were ambitious projections. There’s no question that, as a result, we have even higher expectations for Saturday’s event in terms of audience size.”

Key Metrics for #HolyGhostExperience campaign:

  • More than 1.5 million people have seen HOLY GHOST promotional messages in social media thanks to a successful crowd-amplification effort. Using the Thunderclap platform, which enables people to donate their social media accounts to promote events, Wanderlust has surpassed their original goal by a stunning 200%. Well-known Thunderclap supporters include singer Michael W. Smith, Kim Walker of Jesus Culture, Brian “Head” Welch of Korn, and Jake Hamilton of Jake Hamilton and the Sound.
  • More than 650 churches have signed on to participate to date, bringing large groups together to experience the movie.
  • More than 50 movie theatres have joined by popular demand from the website Tugg.
  • HOLY GHOST’s Official Facebook Page has passed 230,000 strong, meaning that HOLY GHOST will have more Facebook fans when it is released than WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL (a successful faith-based film backed by a major Hollywood studio) did on August 22nd when it was released in theaters.
  • Fans are donating money and have promoted almost 250,000 additional trailer views by volunteering small dollar donations to push the trailer further.

Korn Guitarist Brian “Head” Welch to Introduce HOLY GHOST at Saturday’s World Premiere Experience

Movie features acclaimed musicians Michael W. Smith, Lenny Kravitz, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, Meredith Andrews, and Kim Walker-Smith

Welch to join Jake Hamilton & The Sound in exclusive live performance as part of HOLY GHOST World Premiere Experience beginning at 2pm ET/11am PT this Saturday, September 6th

(Chicago, IL – September 3, 2014)

Wanderlust Productions, the independent film studio behind the hit “God adventure” trilogy FINGER OF GOD, FURIOUS LOVE and FATHER OF LIGHTS, is challenging Hollywood’s established business model with the debut of its Kickstarter-funded, faith film for Millennials, HOLY GHOST. This coming Saturday – September 6th – Wanderlust Productions is presenting the HOLY GHOST World Premiere Experience, a live, one-time digital event where anyone in the world can see the film and the event free of charge.

The HOLY GHOST team is pleased to announce that Brian “Head” Welch, lead guitarist of the world-renowned heavy metal band Korn, will be introducing HOLY GHOST from the Redding Civic Auditorium in Redding, CA. Welch will also make a rare, solo musical appearance during the event, joining Christian band Jake Hamilton & The Sound for a live performance.
“We’re deeply grateful to Brian for his avid support and the prominent role he has agreed to play at the upcoming world premiere. There’s no question he’s going to add his own unique touch to the event,” said Darren Wilson, Director of HOLY GHOST and founder of Wanderlust Productions. “The HOLY GHOST World Premiere Experience is designed to engage fans in an incredible, one-time event built around the film. We’re expecting thousands of young people to physically join us in the Redding Auditorium while others simultaneously participate in hundreds of churches, at thousands of HOLY GHOST home screening parties, and in coffee houses, restaurants, and parks around the globe – anywhere where there’s an Internet connection. We are confident that this film and the experience itself will be surprising and richly rewarding for everyone who participates.”

HOLY GHOST was crowd-funded by 2,500 investors who surged to support Director Darren Wilson’s Kickstarter campaign, raising a record-breaking $360,000 in just 45 days to become the #1 most-funded, faith-based film—and the #2 most-funded documentary—in Kickstarter history. Wanderlust Productions is now crowd-promoting and crowd-marketing this film by mobilizing 25,000 of its most deeply dedicated fans through the #HolyGhostExperience campaign.

Director Darren Wilson shot HOLY GHOST with no script, no plan, and a single goal—to capture real-life evidence of God’s presence on Earth. As a result, HOLY GHOST is appealing and fresh from start to finish, documenting actual instances of divine healing, miracles and seemingly impossible events in improbable places. Filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah, in Monte Carlo, Monaco, at a Korn concert in Iowa, and in Varanasi, India, HOLY GHOST moves seamlessly at breakneck pace from edgy street ministry to life-threatening encounters to interviews with acclaimed Christian artists like Michael W. Smith and noted recording artists like Lenny Kravitz—keeping the audience engaged without missing a beat.
